I believe that learning tranlation is not related exclusively to practice. So I decided to post this compact lesson hoping that it would be useful to all of us dears.
In fact, there many ways to translate any kind of texts. Here you are some of them.

1-Word for word translation:This is the simplest and most primitive way to translate. The translater respect the order of the words and give each word his most common lexical equivalent disregarding the context. And the cultural facts are translated with accurary.
The aim to use this procedure is to decifer complicated texts. It's also very useful for beginers.
2-Literal translation:This one looks for the grammatical and syntaxical structures equivalents but the translation of the singal words remains the same as in the 'word for word translation';literal and out of context.
Literal translation and the word for word translation have many features in common;they are both used as a mean to understand the original text and find out what are the difficulties and problems the translator should overtake.
3-Faithful translation:It seeks to re-birth the same contextual meaning of the original text along with respecting the linguistic features of the target language.Using the faithful translation, the translator gets the possibility to transmit the cultural background and to keep the same lexical and grammatical level with which the auther wrote the text. The fidelity right here is linked up with the auther's intentions, aims and the way he compiled his text.
4-Semantic translation:Unlike the literal translation,it pays much more attention to the aesthetic values to the detriment of the meaning up to a point. So it gives a free rein to the traslator's creativity.
5-Adaptation translation:The translator here has a full laisser-faire.It's used specially in translating poems and plays. The translator keeps the subject, the characters and the plot. And he re-write the text after changing the cultural background. It's used as well in the translatons intended to children. One of the arab authors who used a lot the adaptation translation is Mustafa lutfi al-Manfaluti.
6-Free translation:It give the meaning and don't pay much attention to the form of the original text.Usually, the translated text is longer than the original.
7-Idiomatic translation:It seeks to give the meaning but it bends over the distortion of the nuances(shade of meaning),for it prefers to use the idiomatic and the colloquial expressions, though they don't exist in the original text.Usually, the translator doesn't keep up with the same linguistic level of the original text.
The ideomatic translation is taught mainly in the British universities, for the British people as well as the Americans favour the use idiomatic expressions.
8-Service translation:It's a translation from the language of the habitual use to another language, notably in the public services. This kind of translation is common in the multilingual countries like India.
9-Plain prose translation:It's is used to translate poems into paragraphs which obviously include the punctuation marks. The translator keeps the metaphors and the cultural elements of the original text. But the acoustic features disappear,so the reader understand the meaning without feeling the acoustic effects of the original work. It's very common to find the translation and the original work published in parallel in order to make the original poem easier to comprehend.
10-Informative translation:This procedure is used to translate non-literature texts. The translator gives all the information contained in the original text using more logical and simple language. It's used usually to translate scientific texts.
11-Academic translation:This procedure aims to transform the original text to an ornate style into the target language. It's mainly used in translating documents of great value.
Some British universities still using this kind of translation.

Hope you'll take advantage from it!
